Build a Nest Challenge

Build a Nest Challenge

Today’s activity can be done anywhere really, in your garden, in your house, in the woods. It can be as elaborate and detailed as you like or super simple.

Build a Nest Challenge

You will need:

  • a range of nest building materials
  • a storybook about birds (optional)
  • books about birds (optional)

On a walk today, collect as much nest building material as you think you will need, sticks, twigs, dried leaves, grasses, feathers, moss, even your cat or dog’s hair from their brush! See if you can spot any bird’s nests along the way so you can look at them to see how they are built.

Now set yourself the goal to build a nest for a bird, you will need to think about the shape of a nest, what it is usually made of, where it is usually built, how big it will need to be how stable it will need to be. Maybe have a look at bird’s nests in books or online and at the storybook about birds to give you ideas. Here is a website that shows you 8 different kinds of bird nests.

Do let us know how you get on.  You can find us on Facebooktwitter and/or instagram and we would love to hear from you.

Happy nesting!

April
